Pegasus Opera 3 Vs Sage

Written by Anthony | Jun 20, 2019 4:06:29 PM

Two popular software solutions go head to head.

Who’s the champion of accounting and business software for SMEs in the UK? In one corner, we have Sage, which, despite a financial wobble last year, has some strong contenders, like Sage 50 and Sage 200. But in the other corner we have Pegasus Opera 3, a veteran in this sector, with more than 30 years of experience behind it. For us, Opera 3 has to be the favourite. Why? Let’s find out as we pit Opera 3 vs Sage.

Number Of Companies

With Opera 3, you get unlimited companies as standard. Sage 100 and 200 also offer this feature, but Sage 50 users are limited to just five companies.

Multi Currency

If you deal with foreign companies, you’ll be glad to know Opera 3 supports multiple currencies as standard. Want the same feature in Sage? You’ll have to buy a separate add-on.

Multiple Warehouses

Included as standard with Opera 3, but only available as an add-on for Sage (are we spotting a pattern here?).

Annual Maintenance Contracts

Sage 200 users have to take a mandatory annual maintenance contract. There is no such requirement for Opera 3 users.

Payroll

The payroll module of Sage 200 is a separate purchase and installation, whereas Opera 3’s is completely integrated.

^ Opera 3's Payroll module is fully integrated.

HR

The human resources module of Opera 3 is free with Opera 3 payroll, while Sage’s HR module is a separate purchase.

Emailing Documents

There are almost no limits to what you can email from Opera 3. Sage, however, is limited in this area without an add-on, which you’ll need to pay for.

Purchasing Options

When it comes to purchasing options for Opera 3 vs Sage, there’s quite a big difference. With Sage, you have to buy one of their bundles, but Pegasus allows you to buy your Opera 3 logins either as bundles or separately.

Opera 3 Vs Sage: The Result

Sage hasn’t grown to the size it has by producing bad software (although it does have some bad reviews for Sage 50cloud). But that doesn’t mean it’s necessarily the best option for your business, and it tends to charge for things that are included as standard with Opera 3.

But that’s not the only reason Pegasus comes out on top when pitting Opera 3 vs Sage. The fact is Opera 3 has much more appealing modularity and customisability than Sage does. If a bespoke solution suits you more, which it likely will, then Opera 3 is the way to go.
