Microsoft’s Black Friday Deals (2018)

Surface devices discounted

It’s strange to think that Black Friday wasn’t a thing in the UK until relatively recently. The day was traditionally a one-day event, originating in the States, to mark the day after Thanksgiving and to act as the first day of the Christmas shopping season.

UK retailers have really begun to take Black Friday more seriously over the past five years or so, and deals are now stretched out over days of marked events. Photographs of hot and bothered shoppers wrestling over a discounted television have become familiar to us all, and while high street retailers are clearly placing a great amount of time and effort into these events, it’s not necessary to fear injury when shopping for discounts.

Yes, that’ll be thanks to the internet, and Microsoft has announced its own Black Friday offers, all available via its online store. The offers mainly focus on the Surface range, with discounts on the Surface Book 2, Surface Go, Surface Pro 6 and Surface Laptop 2.

The Surface Pro 6.

We've recently written about the virtues of the Surface Go, and the lower-cost tablet will come with a small saving if you decide to bundle the current WiFi versions with a Type Cover, saving £24 on the 64GB variant and £36 on the 128GB version. The Type Covers do greatly enhance the experience on the Surface Go, so this seems a fair deal on the, ahem, surface.

It’s also worth noting that the Office Home suite has also been given a discount, down from £79.99 to £59.99, and this saving can also be applied to the Surface Go tablets if you decide to add it on at checkout.

The more powerful Surface Pro 6, heaturing an eighth-generation i5 or i7 processor gets a price cut, with a £200 saving on the i7 variant, and that’s on both the 256GB/8GB RAM and 512GB/16GB RAM or 1TB/16GB RAM options. The i5 Surface Pro 6 with Type Cover is also on offer, starting at £749 for the 128GB/8GB RAM version, and this saving of over £200 is described by Microsoft as a limited time offer.

Moving on, the i7 Surface Book 2 comes with a £200 saving, and that’s across both 13.5- and 15-inch displays, 8GB or 16GB RAM memory and all storage options. The 256GB/8GB RAM i5 variant also has a £200 saving, but the 128GB version only comes with £50 off.

Finally, the new Surface Laptop 2 has a £200 saving across both i5 and i7 models, from the 128GB/8GB RAM Platinum i5 model, right up to the 1TB/16GB RAM Platinum i7 option.

Not to let accessories off the hook, Microsoft has various savings on Surface accessories for both laptops and tablets, with minor discounts across various items and a possible £97 saving when buying a tablet, keyboard and mouse together. Example savings include over £19 on the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter, £28 on the Microsoft Arc Mouse (in black), and money off various tablet sleeves and cases.

The Surface range has steadily established itself in recent years, and these discounts certainly help to make the likes of the already-impressive Surface Pro 6 even more attractive. Of course, as with any purchases, you should shop around to see if these discounts can be beaten elsewhere, but Microsoft’s deals are certainly welcome.
